A CARNIVAL club in Ilminster may have to fold unless it can find a new base by the end of the month.

One Plus One CC, which has more than 20 members, had to leave its current base on the Dillington Estate by last week.

Chairman Maurice Hooper said the club was struggling to find a replacement venue to build its cart for this year.

He said: “We need to find somewhere by the end of the month – people have lost heart and everyone is pretty down.

“It’s a shame we had to leave as the club has had an excellent relationship with Dillington.”

It has not been an easy couple of years for the club – it had to withdraw its entry from last year’s carnival circuit as its tractor engine failed.

It has just raised enough funds to buy another engine but this latest setback has left the club’s future in jeopardy.

Vice-chairman Wayne Davey said: “It is not looking too good – the trouble is everyone is keen to build something but you can’t, we have to hang back until we can sort somewhere out to go.”

The club had been at the estate six years and needs a venue with about 100ft x 50ft of space.

One Plus One CC is an adult club but also has youngsters of 14 or 15 who assist with odd jobs on the cart.

Anyone who can help should call Mr Davey on 07736-644899 or Mr Hooper on 01460-54626 or 07741-100509.

n THE search is still on for this year’s Chard Carnival Princess and Miss Chard. Carnival Princess entrants must be aged six to 11 and Miss Chard entrants 12 and over, with no upper age limit.

Entrants must raise a minimum of £250 and prizes for each of the winners include a prom dress, hair styling, beauty treatments, photo shoot and jewellery.
