THE Ilminster branch of Branston donated £750 for prizes at this year’s visual arts competition at the town’s arts centre.
The competition has been running since 2010 and Branston has sponsored the Art Award each year.
It is a celebration of the region’s creative talent with over 197 pieces submitted from professional and amateur artists across Ilminster, Chard, Crewkerne and surrounding villages.
Entries fall into two main categories – 2D paintings or 3D pieces and sculptures – with competitors entering watercolours, pastels and textile work alongside the bigger sculptures.
The overall winner was Linda Green, a tutor in fine art at Richard Huish College in Taunton.
Sue Bishop, of Ilminster Arts Centre, said: “We had a very good entry rate – it’s great that we have the opportunity to raise funds at such events.”
