Town Hall Talk: Mayor of Ilminster Emma Jane Taylor
11:00am Saturday 31st May 2014 in News
LAST Sunday I was getting ready to head off on a business trip, but before leaving I had to go into the centre of town.
The sun was shining, and the Ilminster Experience flags and banners had just gone up.
Even on a grey day the colours and designs of the flags and banners bring the town alive.
It was a sight that certainly brightened up my day and proved that despite the weather Ilminster is getting ready for the summer.
Unfortunately, bad weather hit the town again on Saturday, but the residents still turned out for the Lions’ Fête and I know the Lions were grateful for all those who supported them.
The fête marked the start of the town’s summer events, so please don’t forget to put your scarecrow out on June 5.
Judging will take place some time between Thursday, June 5, and Sunday, June 8.
I am looking forward to the Ilminster Forum Product Market on Saturday, June 7, along with the Ilminster Experience food and craft market.
On Sunday, June 8, you will find the car show on the recreation ground.
These are just a few of the activities taking place over the coming weeks, and I believe there is something for everyone.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all those individuals who have been kind enough to offer me congratulations on being reelected as Mayor for the coming year.
I am looking forward to working with Cllr Andrew Lawson as Deputy Mayor and the other councillors during the coming year.
Cllr Linda Vijeh stood down after a number of years as a town councillor, so I would like to thank her for giving up her time to carry out this role and wish her all the best in the future.
This, of course, means there is now a vacancy on the town council, so why not put your name forward?
It is not an easy task. There is no way anyone can please all the people all the time, but it does have its rewarding moments.
