Paramedics threatened at collision near Yeovil
4:00pm Thursday 29th May 2014 in News
PARAMEDICS were threatened at the scene of a collision on the A303 on Monday.
The collision occurred at around 5.30pm on Monday, May 26, on the A303 near Yeovil.
A silver Ford Focus Estate and a bronze Daewoo Matiz were involved in a collision at traffic lights on the Podimore roundabout.
The people in the Ford received minor injuries but the air ambulance was called to treat a passenger in the Daewoo and he was flown to Southmead Hospital.
Paramedic crews from both the ambulance and air ambulance were both threatened along with members of the pubic by a man at the scene.
When police officers arrived at the scene a man was arrested on suspicion of assault and drink-driving. He’s been released on bail pending further enquiries.
The injuries of the man flown to hospital are no longer considered to be serious.
Investigating the incident, PC Phil Evans said: “It’s shocking to find out that medical teams and members of the public trying to help an injured man were prevented from doing so.
"We know some people started filming the incident at the request of a paramedic and I’m appealing to those people to give us copies of the footage.”
If you can help, please contact PC Phil Evans at Yeovil Police Station on 101.
