Trim trail in Yeovil to help people exercise

Yeovil Express: Trim trail in Yeovil to help people exercise Trim trail in Yeovil to help people exercise

THE South Somerset District Council (SSDC) and Somerset County Council funded ‘trim trail’ is up and running at Birchfield Park in Yeovil.

Trim trails are a great way to liven up your outdoor training and keep fit. The Birchfield Park trim trail works on the principle of using body weight to get yourself over, under and through a series of static obstacles. Rather than picking up a weight in a mainstream gym, your bodyweight supplies the resistance that will tone and strengthen your entire body. The trim trail is located next to a new 3-2-1 running route that will be linked to the existing 3-2-1 route at Yeovil Country Park. This will give residents the opportunity to access both routes together, creating a 6km route. Further information on 3-2-1 running routes can be found at www.southsomerset.gov.uk/321.

The Trim Trail is open for everyone to use but for adults who would like some help making the most of the equipment, Bucklers Mead Sport Centre will be running Outdoor trim trail classes. The class will take place on Wednesdays 10.00-11.00am and will meet at the Sports Centre before walking down to use the equipment and access the running route. The first three sessions are free to attend.

The project is the result of partnership working between Somerset County Councillor Tony Lock and various SSDC departments including Area Development, Engineering, Streetscene and Community Health & Leisure.

Councillor Lock has given the project £4,500 from his Health and Wellbeing Grant fund. Speaking about the project, he said, “I’m pleased that through partnership working, we have been able to deliver fitness equipment that is free and accessible to all. The project is an extension of the improvements that have been made to the park including new lighting and wider pathways. We hope that this project will encourage even greater use of the park and that local running and fitness groups will enjoy the new destination for outdoor fitness.”
