OVER the last two weeks the weather has improved and it has begun to feel like summer. The good weather has enabled the town wardens to catch up on some of the open spaces work.

The cemetery is looking better than it has in recent weeks. The railings along Strawberry Bank and around Orchard Vale are now adorned with planters that enhance the areas in the same way that the hanging baskets in the town centre are a visual treat.

My thanks to all those residents who have contacted the council to express the pleasure the planters and baskets give them.

The school year is coming to an end, exams and school proms are behind us, and we are rapidly moving into the summer holiday.

Many of you will be faced with the question ‘how do we keep the kids amused?’ Activities are taking place in the town and it is worth checking our local information centre, websites and of course the News for information. And don’t forget the Facebook page ‘Free Stuff To Do in the Holidays’.

On Saturday I was invited to attend the South Somerset District Scout Camp. It was good to see so many youngsters busy setting up camp and joining in a wide range of activities. Moves are afoot to reduce the number of Scout districts and this was the last South Somerset District Camp to take place before the districts merge.

Ilminster’s Party on the Park event is drawing nearer. The programme of activities continues to grow and combined with the musical entertainment we have planned should produce a fun-filled day for all the family.
