A COOKING challenge called ‘My Best School Dinner’ will test out children at Frogmary Green Farm in South Petherton tomorrow (Thursday).

Children, schools and families have been asked to come up with three top recipe ideas that will get everyone wanting to join the school dinner queue in September.

The ‘Masterchef’ style competition was created by Somerset County Council Public Health in a bid to get children more involved in the whole business of school lunches and spark their interest in food and eating a healthy school lunch.

Ten lucky finalists drawn from around Somerset, their families and teachers will attend the special ‘Masterchef’ styled event at Frogmary Green Farm where they will cook their meals for the specially selected panel of judges.

The top three entrants will win £100 worth of shopping vouchers each and their recipes will be featured in the school dinner menus this Autumn.

From September, all infant children in England will get a free meal every day at school and Somerset County Council are very keen for good ‘take-up’ of the school meals which will provide a healthy, balanced lunch.

The event runs tomorrow from 9.45am onwards.
