Programme of events for Chard Medieval Weekend
FINAL preparations are being made ahead of Chard’s Medieval Weekend.
Fun for all the family is on offer at The Beacon at Crowshute Lane and Jocelyn Park on Saturday and Sunday.
The event is in two parts – evening activities from 6-10pm on Saturday at the Beacon followed by afternoon fun in Jocelyn Park from noon on Sunday.
Mayor Jenny Kenton, town crier Stuart Cumming, Deputy Mayor Garry Shortland and other key figures will tackle a firewalk on Saturday night.
Money raised from the event will go to the Mayor’s five charities – Chard Museum, Chard and Crewkerne After Stroke Care, Chard Carers Support Group, Chard Town Team and Chard Area Youth Committee.
Mr Cumming said: “We will be performing this death-defying feat in our regalia and I will be shouting a town cry as I go.
“It really will be a spectacle for bemused onlookers and is to be a part of bigger celebrations in the town celebrating the anniversary of Chard receiving its charter.”
The event is based on summer festivities, marked last year by the hugely successful Flight Parade and Party in the Park.
Fire juggling, firewalking, live music, street market and evening market are on offer, along with lighting the beacon and other fun-filled activities.
Places are still available to join in the charity firewalk or have a stall at the craft market.
Call Andrew Ashmore on 07584- 280607 for a market stall or email Ian White for more information at firstname.lastname@example.org
