A FLORAL designer from Cottage Flowers, in Ilminster, is keen to prove why she is a cut above the rest at the RHS Malvern Show.

Jacalyn Dobson, of Buckland St Mary, has been chosen to represent Devon in the National Federation of Young Farmers Floral Art competition as she is a member of Yarcombe Young Farmers.

The 24-year-old is hoping to defend her title after being crowned national champion at last year’s event.

She said: “There is a little bit of pressure but I am lucky in that I am a trained florist, so I have the experience and knowledge.”

Jacalyn started work at Cottage Flowers ten years ago as a part-time job alongside her school studies.

Now, she is making a name for herself in the floral design world, including working at the Flowers@Oxford event last month, organised by the renowned Judith Blacklock, of the Judith Blacklock Flower School, Knightsbridge, and Fleur Creatif, a leading international floral design magazine.

She said: “I have always been arty and had a love for gardening.

“I love doing it because it is just really creative and every day is different.

“Ilminster is a busy place and the shop is really busy so there is always lots to do.”

The Malvern Show is on Sunday, September 28, and will take place at the Three Counties Showground in Worcestershire.
