RUGBY players at Holyrood Academy are in good hands with Simon Jenkins at the helm.

Mr Jenkins, who played professional rugby for Exeter Chiefs, Newport Gwent Dragons and Doncaster Knights, has been appointed head of the school’s rugby academy.

He has represented Wales at under-19 and under-21 levels and joins the academy with an extensive list of accolades and experience.

Mr Jenkins, head coach at Chard Rugby Club, said: Ultimately the aim is for Holyrood Academy to be the premier rugby-playing educational establishment in the region for both boys and girls.

“There is a three to five-year plan in place to achieve this. Every player will receive the best possible coaching to help them achieve their potential both on the field and in the classroom.

“There is so much talent in every age group at Holyrood and the opportunity to develop this, coupled with a head teacher who is so committed to raising the standards of sport in the academy, is very exciting.”
