THE head teacher of a primary school said he was ‘gobsmacked’ after £1,500 in cash was posted anonymously through the school’s letterbox.

Connel Boyle said a brown envelope was waiting for him when he arrived at work at Neroche Primary School last Tuesday morning.

Inside was the money and a letter which Mr Boyle said had ‘blown away’ his staff.

The letter read: “During the relatively short time we have been associated with your school we have been very impressed by the work of all the staff for the benefit of the children at Neroche Primary School.

“The excellent teaching and learning which takes place at your school is a credit to everyone. As recognition to this, we would like to make the enclosed amount to the current iPad fund.

“We wish staff and children all the success in the future – you are doing a wonderful job for our local children.”

The school has been running an iPad fund to buy iPads to be used to give children new ways of learning.

Mr Boyle said £1,000 would allow the school to buy six devices.

He added: “I had a governors’ meeting the night before and when I left at around 9pm no mail had been posted through the front door. When I opened the letter, I could not believe what I saw.

“This has raised staff morale tremendously. This sort of thing has never happened in my time working at four other schools and has not happened for any of the staff either – they have been blown away by it all.

“It is wonderful for the children and all the staff, and helps towards everything we are doing at the school.

"A massive thank you to the anonymous person who has sent the donation, it will make a real difference to the school."
