STUDENTS at Swanmead Community School, in Ilminster, took just 20 minutes to scoff a batch of cakes and biscuits baked by Year 6 pupil Lydia Peachey and her friends.

Lydia hit on the idea of a cake sale to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity and her efforts, along with Isabelle Applegate, Lauren Paul, Chloe Park, Yasmin Pierce and Sophie Gibbons raised £56.82 for the cause.

Meanwhile, Rafael Fowler, Skye Hutchings and Kyle Jenkins showed their prowess with numbers when they won a maths challenge against KIPP South Fulton Middle School, from the United State – they were adjudged ‘Heroes of the Rounds’ as Swanmead won five rounds to two.

And introducing the Swanmead stage crew, the unsung heroes of the fantastic shows, concerts and productions at the Ilminster Middle School.

Head of performing arts Helen Derry said: “Putting on school concerts and productions isn’t just about what happens on stage.

“Often it’s all about what occurs off it that is the key to success.

“I honestly don’t know what I’d do without these young people who are crucial towards all the excellent performances we have put on over the past few years.”

She praised the team of Bradley Lawrence, Josie Gray, Chloe Paul, Luke Small, Lucy-Leah Pearson, Harvey Webber, Josh Lee, Josh Evans and Lizzie Murdoch.
