HUNDREDS of racers descended on Hinton St George First School on Sunday to take part in the annual Slay The Dragon 10k cross-country race.

The event, now in its eighth year, attracted runners from across Chard, Ilminster, Crewkerne and Merriott as well as from further afield with some runners coming from Exeter, Salisbury and Cardiff.

There were three races, the Slay the Dragon 10k, the Dragon’s Tail 4k and the Baby Dragon 2k for runners of all ages to enjoy.

The event is organised by the Hinton St George First School Parents and Friends Association. Organiser Jason Brown said: “I am absolutely delighted with how the day went and with the turnout, we had a record number of people register for this year’s run. There was great support from everyone who took part and a strong showing from several local Running Clubs.

“We were also blessed with good weather and we’ve had super feedback from some of the runners on how well organised the event was, with many people already eager for next year’s event. We don’t have a total yet but we think it will be more than £1,000.”
