Police say they are looking into reports of a knife being brandished during a "scuffle" between a group of children at Ilminster Recreation Ground.
The incident was said to have occurred after an alleged assault had taken place.
An Avon and Somerset Constbulary spokesman said: "We are investigating an assault on Wednesday, April 1 on the recreation ground in Ilminster involving a group of children aged about 10.
"After the scuffle, witnesses said a small pocket knife, with a blade about one inch long, was displayed by one of the group reported to have committed the assault, before running off."
Police would like to hear from anyone who knows about the incident to call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
