PROPOSALS to build a South Somerset Carnival Park in the Ilminster area are gaining support.
Presentations were last week made to Chard Town Council and South Somerset District Council’s Area West committee about the need for a purpose-built park made for Carnival clubs in the area to construct their floats and entries.
Joint chairman of the project, Steve Dawe, of Harlequin Carnival Club, received applause from Chard councillors with his presentation.
Mr Dawe said that he first got involved in the Carnival as a youngster some 30 years ago, but over time the number of clubs and groups in the Chard and Ilminster area had fallen to just a handful.
A presentation about the plans for a Carnival Park has also been made at Ilminster Town Council.
