THE Chard Eye – a 50ft tall ferris wheel – will be coming to the town this month as part of the town’s Summer Festival weekend.

The Chard Town Team – which last year helped to bring the giant urban slide to the town centre – has announced another great attraction for the area.

The old fashioned ferris wheel – similar to the London Eye but on a much smaller scale - will be placed at Crowshute Link and be available for rides on Saturday, July 18, from 5.30pm to 10pm.

Organisers are offering tickets available to buy in advance priced £5 for adults and £3 for children from Barrons in Holyrood Street, Chard, from Monday to give people a “fast track line pass” to enable them to go straight to the front of the queue whenever you choose to ride the Eye.

Tickets will also be available on the night and all riders will receive a certificate to keep to say they have been on the Chard Eye. This venture was the idea of former Mayor Jenny Kenton’s husband Andy who is willing to underwrite the project to make sure that this fun event takes place in Chard.

Andy said: “The slide was such a success last year that we needed something a little bit special to continue expanding the name of Chard throughout the West Country.

“The initial outlay was too much for the festival budget so I am happy to step in and help to make this exciting project take place.”

Chard Town Team is a group of local volunteers who want to make Chard a great place to work and live.
