A REGULAR fundraising event held by the Monks Yard at Horton Cross near Ilminster has now reached its tenth month and in July helped support the RNLI.

Every fourth Wednesday a space in MY Eating Place cafe is given over to charity and a large proportion of the days takings are donated to worthy causes.

Monks Yard manager Dean Holling said: “The Monks Yard team has always had an ambition to support as many charities as possible, not just with donations but also with a place in which to promote themselves and connect with cafe customers.

“We are delighted with the results so far and are pleased to say that over the last ten months our generous customers have helped us raise over three thousand pounds.”

In June the initiative saw nearly £400 collected for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and July’s total was an impressive £410.

RNLI co-ordinator Caroline Chelten said: “I would like to thank Monks Yard for the extremely generous donation and for their generous hospitality.

“I enjoyed talking to many of the customers, new, occasional and very regulars, they were all extremely complimentary about the café and those who were not aware of it, were most impressed when I explained about community days and hence the reason for me being there with the RNLI adornments.

“I have banked a total of £410 from the takings and the collection bucket which really is a fantastic amount and was a day I very much enjoyed. I have confirmed with our area community representative that we can direct this to the Burnham Lifeboat Appeal and am shortly to contact them with the good news.”

Local charities are asked to contact Monks Yard directly if they would like to be involved with a community day.
