GREENFYLDE First School in Ilminster has been joining in with the celebrations with the Carnival season now in full swing.

The school took part in Ilminster Children’s Carnival on September 26, 2015, with their own decorated umbrella class.

Supported by the Ilminster Carnival Committee the children proudly displayed their umbrellas the day before the parade and after some very difficult judging for the committee members, the winners were announced and certificates and prizes were presented.

Greenfylde headteacher Claire Oaten said: “We are so pleased that taking part in Carnival has become an annual event for the school and we hope by encouraging our pupils to participate now we will encourage them to get involved further in Carnival as they get older.

“Carnival has such strong community values in Somerset and we feel it is important for our children to have as many community based opportunities as possible for their learning and development.”

Pupils have also been creating their own mini floats which, thanks to the kindness of the local businesses, were on display in some of the shop windows over the main Carnival weekend.
