WORK is underway on the Market house in the heart of Ilminster.

The essential maintenance, which is set to cost nearly £12,000, will include some rewiring lights, decorating the ceiling and refurbishing the seats near to the Market House.

The Mayor, Councillor Rose Neave, said: “We are aware that the work will cause some disruption for traffic and pedestrians but care will be taken to minimise that as far as possible and we hope that people will be tolerant and supportive of the need to for the work to be done.”

While access to the Market House will not be possible during the work, the weekly Thursday market will continue.

The work is scheduled to take approximately two weeks, weather permitting.
