CHARD’S skate park could be set for an expansion after the council approved of the work being done by youth organisation Streetspace.

People from the youth initiative have been looking to expand the existing facility in Lower Henson Park.

Two representatives from Streetspace, Alice and Liam, spoke to Chard Town Council on Monday.

They said: “We have been looking at expanding the skate park and spoke to the local community about their views.

“Streetspace isn’t just about expanding the skate park, it is an education as well. Bringing kids off the streets and helping them with things.

“We want the skate park to be a nice clean space for all children to enjoy.”

Cllr Cathie Morrison, who is a member of the Skate Park Working Group, said: “We had a productive meeting with the young men and we had a meeting with the designer who Streetspace have favoured.”

The working group was set up to work with Streetspace and investigate into whether expansion of the skate park was a viable option.

The Guildhall and Amenities committee voted unanimously to “agree to Streetspace carrying on the investigation to extend the skate park, and Streetspace look for funding as the town council’s funding is the use of land, maintenance and electricity subject to any permissions needed.”
