THIS YEAR'S winners of the Denis Lucy Prize were named in a recent ceremony at the Ilminster Cadet Hut.

SMI Dean Brown, platoon commander, announced the winners, with Nikita Hannant-Lewis winning the top prize of best cadet and £70 in vouchers, and Brendon Keats receiving an award of £30 in vouchers for the cadet making the best effort.

William Lucy made the presentations to the cadets and gave a cheque for £20 to SMI Dean Brown to buy drink and snacks for the cadets when travelling to summer camp.

The award is made in memory of Denis Lucy, who died in 2010 and had been an officer in the Royal Ulster Rifles.

He moved to Ilminster, and was a keen supporter of the Ilminster branch of the Royal British Legion and the Army Cadet Force.

His son, William, served as an officer with the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars in the 1980s.

The aim of the Denis Lucy prize is to present a cash prize annually to the best cadet and the best effort cadet of the Ilminster Platoon.

In addition, the platoon will receive a cheque of £20.
