A DRAMA group from South Somerset is celebrating after scooping a host of awards at a prestigious county-wide awards ceremony.

Cloverleaf Productions, based in Combe St Nicholas, won various prizes at this year’s Cinderella Awards, an awards event that recognises the best drama performances across Somerset.

The group, which has just finished its latest show The Snow Queen, was nominated in almost every category at the awards, and won a total of six individual and collective prizes – including the top prize of being named as the best pantomime of the year and scooping the Cinderella Trophy.

Although it has one of the smallest venues with a miniscule stage, Cloverleaf Productions pantomime at Combe St Nicholas Village Hall has forged itself an impressive reputation for consistently being of high quality.

David Stares’ performance as Caw the Raven won him the best cameo performance, with Lesley Cole receiving the costume of the year award for The Snow Queen’s costume.

Cloverleaf’s talented youngsters were also recognised too. Nell Wallbridge and Sienna Lanfear were named as stars of the future, Sienna winning the award for best junior principal girl.

The society also won the Spotlight Shield for best village panto, and its performance of The Snow Queen was given the Cinderella Trophy for best pantomime of the year, seeing off tough competition from the Taunton Wayfarers.

Speaking after the ceremony, panto director Ros Roderigo said she was delighted.

She said: “This is a dream come true.

“With our limited resources, to win just the Spotlight Shield for the Best Village Panto would have been a tremendous accolade, but to take the top prize – the Cinderella Trophy – is amazing.

“It is a fitting recognition of the tremendous amount of hard work and dedication that all Cloverleaf members bring to the panto each year.”
