FIREFIGHTERS rescued a dog from a house fire in Chard.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called to the property on Holyrood Street at 4.30pm on Friday night, after a member of the public reported that smoke was billowing from the house.

Two fire engines from Chard and one from Axminster rushed to the scene, and on arrival, managed to rescue the dog.

They extinguished the fire using one hose reel jet, positive pressure ventilation, and two breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera.

The cause of the fire was located on the cooker and the hob.

There was slight smoke damage to the property, and the cooker and hob was destroyed in the incident.
