A CHARD man accused of stealing tens of thousands of pounds from his partner’s account which had been left as an inheritance for her three sons has appeared in court charged with theft.

Stephen Craig Isaacs is alleged to have helped himself to the money, although when he appeared before Somerset Magistrates they were told the victim was not supporting the prosecution and heard the defendant was allegedly paying the money back.

Isaacs, 29, of Halcombe Estate, was charged that between January 4 and February 10 this year at Chard he stole the sum of £46,921.80 belonging to Kate Hooker and Nicholas Ward.

Defending solicitor Louise Eaves said her client was alleged to have stolen the money from his partner’s account which was money left by her former partner’s mother for her three sons.

The defendant did not enter a plea to the allegation and the case was adjourned for more information to be obtained and for representations to be made to the Crown Prosecution Service with regards to the public interest of proceeding with the case. Isaacs was ordered to return to the court at Yeovil on June 29 and in the meantime was released on unconditional bail.
