CREWS have been called to two seperate fires in toilet blocks in Canal Way in the early hours of this morning.

The first incident was at around 1.15am on the recreation ground, and invloved a motorcycle on fire under the eaves of a toilet block.

Devon and Somerset Fire Control room received multiple calls to reports of the fire and a fire engine from Ilminster was mobilised. Two fire engines from Chard were also sent to fire the fire.

At around 1.45am, fire crews confirmed that one motorcycle was well alight under the eaves of a toilet block and that the fire spreading to toilet block.

One hose reel jet, a covering jet, a triple extension ladder and thermal image camera were used to put the fire out.

The motocycle was 100 per cent damaged by fire, and one building measuring 8 metres by 4 metres was 10 per cent damaged by radiated heat and smoke.

Fire crews were again called to Canal Way shortly before 6am.

One fire engine from Ilminster and one from Chard attended reports of smoke coming from a toilet block in a recreational area.

Crews arrived on scene and confirmed smoke issuing, and requested a further appliance from Chard.

Crews put the fire out using four breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets and ladders.

The incident support unit from Yeovil was requested for extra breathing apparatus cylinders.

Fire investigation is currently underway. The building sustained moderate damage in the fire.
