CHARD charity fundraisers are praying for good weather as they count down the days to a huge Strawberry Tea Party.

The event, which is being organised by Cllr Amanda Broom and Rachel Dunn and other staff from Hornsbury Mill, is being held on Monday, August 29, from midday until 4pm.

There will be live music, guest speakers, pony rides, stalls, raffles, cakes, games and many other activities to help raise money for Breast Cancer Care.

Speaking ahead of the event, Cllr Broom said: “Arrangements for the Strawberry Tea Party at Hornsbury Mill are really coming together - the only thing outstanding is our Great British weather committing to being sunny.

“All of the stalls have been taken and live singers are in place including John Gudge, Jemima Maria and Jonathan Farey to name a few. Ponies are ready, raffle prizes are being collected, cakes are being baked and fundraising games are ready to go.

“I have been astounded at the generosity of local shops and businesses in the prizes that they have donated, they have been really pleased to help support a local charity event for such a worthy cause.

“We have plenty of prizes, including cash prizes of £50, £25, £15 and £10 and lots of Breast Cancer Care prizes too. I’ve tried to get to all local businesses, but if I’ve missed you out - please get in touch, and I’ll happily come and collect a donation.”

Overall, more than £400 worth of raffle prizes have been donated to help raise money for Breast Cancer Care.

The Strawberry Tea Party follows a number of fundraisers in the town for the charity over the past couple of years.

These include a calendar girls fundraiser and hanging bras on the Victoria roundabout in 2014/15.

Jill White, who is winning her own battle with cancer, will be at the event as a guest speaker.

She said: “I’m really pleased to be able to be involved in an event which will help raise money and help me give something back.

“If anyone is suffering, or helping someone who is, it’s worth remembering to ASK - Awareness, Support and Knowledge, all of which are available and this kind of event really helps link people up.”
