PLANS to increase Bristol Airport's car parking capacity by 3,650 spaces will be brought forward, North Somerset Council agreed this week.

The work will increase the capacity of the airport's Silver Zone parking, and the decision to try and bring this development forward was made due to increasing demand at the growing airport.

The proposed Silver Zone extension will see a 7.8 hectare area of land located to the west of the existing Silver Zone car park developed for car parking.

Having initially granted permission to the scheme in 2011, at a planning meeting on Tuesday, September 14, North Somerset Council approved an application by the airport to re-phase work which will see the Silver Zone car park extended and 3,650 new long stay spaces created.

Of these spaces, 1,878 will come in the form of a new five-tier multi-storey car park.
