TESTS have been carried out on Chard's closed Cresta swimming pool, with the results expected on Thursday.

The swimming pool on Zembard Lane was closed on Thursday while an investigation is carried out.

There are issues with the ventilation system and Somerset County Council has taken the decision to close the pool while it investigates.

Cresta will remain shut until at least December 1, when the results of the Somerset County Council Scientific Services team tests come back.

A spokesman for 1610 said: "The facility will remain closed until at least Thursday December 1 when the results of the tests are expected.

"1610, the pool leisure operator, has informed members and community groups who use the pool about the closure and apologises for any inconvenience that the closure may cause and it is also grateful for their understanding and patience in regard to this matter.

"1610 will update members about any further changes on the 1610 website. www.1610.org.uk."

An update was posted on the centre's website on Monday at 6.30am.

It said: "Cresta Swimming Pool will remain closed until Thursday December 1 due to maintenance issues, we are hopeful that we will be able to provide a further update on that day.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused."

The pool is an ongoing issue as it estimated that it needs repairs which would cost around £1 million.
