TWO people were hospitalised after a crash on A358 last night in which three people were injured.

The road was closed for more than two hours from 7pm (Wednesday, February 15) while police, fire service and paramedics were on the scene in Chard.

Two of the people involved in the crash had to be cut free from their car before being taken to Musgrove Park Hospital for treatment of head injuries.

Fire crews were called to the scene at around 6.50pm and reported one walking wounded and two people injured and still inside one of the cars.

Three fire appliances were sent to the scene, two from Chard and one from Crewkerne and an operational assurance officer.

On arrival crews stood down the Crewkerne appliance and it returned to home station.

The fire crews worked on the car to allow access for paramedics to get to the casualties.

An ambulance spokesperson said that the two casualties were freed from the car before being taken to Musgrove Park Hospital to be treated for head injuries.

The injuries sustained are not serious.

The road was closed between the junctions of Tatworth Road and Chardstock Lane in Chard and Parrocks Lane and Axminster Road in South Chard.

Traffic returned to normal at around 10pm.
