A CHARD shop which announced last week that they may be forced to close remain defiant that the business will continue in the town.

Owners of Dovetails, which is currently based in Fore Street, Chard, were unable to agree on a new lease with their landlord and so are set to close shop on April 22.

However, they are already looking for new premises within the town.

Teresa Welch, one of Dovetails co-owners, said: "We are closing on April 22 due to being given notice by our landlord.

"Unfortunately we were unable to sign a new lease as the landlord required this to be for a six year period, which is too long for us to commit to.

"Although the last few months have been rather stressful for us, firstly being closed for a month due to the building work and then of course the robbery last month, we may be down but we are certainly not out.

"We are currently looking at other premises and doing everything we can to keep our little shop going. People have been very supportive and we know how much they love the shop.

"Although we will be leaving our current shop, we are negotiating for new premises and intend to do everything we can to continue as we are.

"All current (and new) renters will be more than welcome to make the move with us, so wish us luck and hopefully your favourite shop will remain open."
