SOUTH Somerset District Council has announced that five people will be running to represent South Somerset in parliament next month.
Today was the deadline for candidates to announce that they will be running as a prospective parliamentary candidate for the Yeovil Constintuency.
Constituents will take to the polling stations on June 8 after Prime Minister Theresa May announced the snap election last month.
Marcus Fysh, who received the most votes in the 2013 General Election, will be standing for re-election for the Conservative Party.
South Somerset district councillor Jo Roundell Greene was last week announced as the Liberal Democrat candidate, hoping to follow in the footsteps of Paddy Ashdown and David Laws in representing the region in yellow.

Meanwhile, Ian Martin from the Exter constituency will be representing the Labour Party, Crewkerne resident Katy Pritchard will be standing as an Independent candidate, and Robert Wood from Yeovil will be standing for the Green Party.
