CHARD’S summer extravaganza is set to take place this weekend.

Cllr Jason Baker, member of the Chard Town Team, said: “This year’s Chard Summer Festival kicks off this weekend on Saturday with a street market in Holyrood street which will be closed to traffic.

“You will be able to wander through the stalls and enjoy a coffee or snack along the way.

“Then Saturday evening will kick off at around 6pm with lots to see and do along with live music from Daytona and the lighting of the beacon at 10pm.

“On Sunday, we will be at Jocelyn Park for Party in the Park from noon until 5pm, where there will be over 50 stalls and attractions as well as live music from various local groups and solo artists.

“Stalls will include everything from food, cream teas bouncy castles, trampolines and much much more.”

The Holyrood Street event will be from 9am until 2pm and The Beacon events will run from 8pm to 10pm on Saturday.

The Party in the Park will also include a dog show, tug of war, battle tag archery, live music, inflatables and a surf simulator, fundraising stalls and a demonstration for the Chard majorettes.

Cllr Garry Shortland, mayor of Chard added: “The court house will be open for public viewing again. We did it a couple of years ago and it was so successful. A lot of people say they miss the opportunity to go in and have a look around.

“That is mainly due to the Chard Museum, because it is their open day as well.

“On Sunday at Jocelyn Park, the Chard Defibrillator Group are going to have a stall.

“We have now got the possibility and the funding to get quite a few defibrillators now, and this stall is just about keeping people up to date but also fundraising.”
