A CHARD man accused of chasing another vehicle in a high speed pursuit which culminated in a collision has had his trial date postponed after a crucial witness did not attend.

Michael Mullins was alleged to have driven in an intimidating manner, crossing to the wrong side of the road, and following the collision was said to have produced a sharpened screwdriver and confronted the other driver.

Michael Mullins, 26, of Henson Park, appeared before Somerset Magistrates, sitting at Yeovil where he pleaded not guilty to driving a vehicle dangerously on Henson Park in Chard on April 12.

He also denied using towards Antonio Gray threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause him to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used against him on the same date.

The case had previously been adjourned for the defendant to stand trial, but when the case was put back before the court prosecutor Robert Reid said a vital witness for the prosecution had not attended the scheduled hearing.

He said that a witness summons had now been issued to ensure his attendance and the magistrates agreed to postpone the trial until November 28.

Until then Mullins was released on conditional bail on the understanding he does not contact Antonio Gray or Marcelo Rodrigues directly or indirectly.
