THE main road between Taunton and Ilminster has been closed after a five car crash.

The A358 has been closed after the crash, which is on Mattock's Tree Hill near to the junction with the A378.

South Western Ambulance Service were called to scene shortly after 11am.

They attended with four ambulances and one rapid response vehicle.

They have dealt with four patients in total, with three taken to Musgrove Park Hospital and one person rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

Three casualties have only minor injuries, but one person is being treated for chest and head injuries.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We got a call at about 11.10am and there had been a road traffic collision involving two LGVs and three cars.

"There were a total of six casualties at the incident. One man was extricated by fire fighters from the LGV and one person was extricated from one of the cars after the roof was taken off.

"Four casualties got out of the car themselves, assisted by fire fighters who helped and gave first aid."

The road has since reopened.
