Signing spree to continue at Huish Park?

WITH Yeovil Town's first game of the 2007-08 season away at Huddersfield Town nearing fast, Glovers' boss Russell Slade is still looking to strengthen his squad.

There was talk yesterday (Tuesday) that he was looking to sign former Crewe Alexandra and Rotherham United midfielder Justin Cochrane.

The 25-year-old, who is on trial at Huish Park, played during Yeovil's decent 2-2 pre-season friendly draw at Bristol City on Saturday and Slade later described his performance as great.' London-born Cochrane started his career at QPR as a trainee and played for the youth and reserve teams.

He was sold to non-league Hayes - a club that not so long ago were fierce rivals of Yeovil - having failed to make a single first-team appearance for QPR.

Cochrane was then sold by Hayes on a free transfer to Crewe.

He later had a loan spell at Gillingham and a trial at Luton Town, before he was released by Crewe at the end of the 2005-06 season and joined Rotherham.

But now he is a free agent, Slade is taking a closer look at him to see if he could be another piece of the jigsaw before the curtain-opener on August 11.

More impressively is, however, that Slade has been able to complete the six-month-loan capture of Liverpool defender/midfielder Lee Peltier.

The 20-year-old formed a good partnership in the middle of the park with Cochrane on Saturday and it is a real coup for Yeovil to gain somebody of his talents.

He has only made four appearances for the Liverpool first-team - but that does include a UEFA Champions League match for the Reds against Turkish side Galatasary in December last year. Liverpool lost that game 3-2, but Peltier played the full 90 minutes at right-back, a position favoured by Reds' boss Rafa Benitez.

Peltier was subject to an emergency loan cover agreement in March and closed last season with Hull City.

He returned to Liverpool and scored his first goal for the club on July 14 in a pre-season match against Crewe.

But it is to Yeovil's and Peltier's credit that he has decided to come south and gain more first-team match action in League One with the Glovers, rather than play in Liverpool's reserve side.
