Rachel Smith, owner and founder of ‘IamRachel’, won Theo Paphitis’ sought after Small Business Sunday (#SBS) Twitter award.
Rachel owns a jewellery enamelling business, based in Woolavington, Bridgwater.
Enamelling is the process of adding fine glass powders or liquids onto metal and firing in a kiln at over 820 degrees.
Every Sunday evening Theo Paphitis, retail magnate and Dragon’s Den star, encourages small businesses to send him a tweet describing what they do. The following Monday he chooses six lucky businesses who are then retweeted to all his 500,000 followers.
On 23rd February 2018, the #SBS event was held at the ICC in Birmingham and Rachel attended with her month-old baby daughter, Ruby, and partner, Stuart.
Rachel explains: “I met some really lovely people and realised that not only do hundreds of people all over the world own and wear jewellery made by me (which is overwhelming in itself), but also a couple of people said that I have inspired them with their business ventures and helped them to win the #SBS title. As a small business owner that feels quite heart-warming.”
She adds: “We had pictures with Theo and afterwards I asked if I could have a picture with Ruby” she explains.
“Theo was very happy to and he actually took her from my arms for the photo – there are not many girls that can say they’ve been held by a millionaire!”
