FLOOD alerts remain in place for Somerset after a wash-out Easter weekend.

The county and much of the South West saw bouts of heavy rain prompting the Met Office to issue weather warnings for Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

Around 20 flood alerts and warnings remain in place across the region this morning, with people in Bridgwater, Taunton and North Petherton being urged to be prepared as flooding is possible.

A flood warning is in place for West Somerset as flooding is expected on Washford River.

The Environment Agency website states: “Monday (April 2) will be largely dry, however, showers are forecast this evening and overnight into Tuesday morning.

“River levels on the River Tone at Greenham, River Tone at Bishops Hull, River Tone at Taunton, Hillfarrance Brook at Milverton and Halsewater Stream at Halsewater are falling but remain high.

Flooding is also possible on the Lower Tone and Parrett Moors.

The website added: “Monday will be largely dry, however showers are forecast this evening and overnight into Tuesday morning. The River Tone at Currymoor is not forecast to show significant further rise in response to this rainfall.”
