FOLLOWING a South Somerset shop's successful launch last month, staff are now looking to launch a charity sports day event.

The newly opened Boswells café will be holding the ainaugural event on April 28.

The family-run café restaurant opened its doors on March 16 at the Quedam Shopping Centre in Yeovil.

Having already received a five-star hygiene rating and created 25 new jobs in the local area, Boswells are continuing to integrate into the community by taking part in various local events, and are now set to run one of their own.

Jamie Kershaw, opening manager of Boswells, ran the Yeovil Half Marathon.

He said: “I took part in my first competitive run a couple of years ago at the Bath Half, raising money for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund (PCRF).

"This is a charity that is very close to our family business as our founder, Jeremy Burn, was taken by the disease in 2012.

"I wanted to run to help raise money and awareness of this silent killer. Yeovil Half was a warm up for the London Marathon which I’m really excited for.”

Nick Burn, managing director of Boswells said: “As a family we really appreciate Jamie’s efforts in supporting the PCRF.

"Raising awareness of a disease that took our father so suddenly is a must, which is why Jamie’s not only running but has also organised a sports day which will take place on April 28.

"Jamie has been with us for about ten years, going above and beyond in everything he does so we’re keen to get behind him for the London Marathon and cheer him on.”

The sports day, in aid of PCRF, is taking place on April 28 from 10am to 4pm in and around the Boswells Café in the Quedam Shopping Centre.

All money raised will be combined with that raised from the Yeovil Half and London Marathon and donated to Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.
