A FULL inquest into the death of a keen Somerset motorcyclist almost two years ago is unlikely ever to be heard, it has emerged.

Raymond Mullett was killed after a car turned into his path, the senior coroner for Somerset said at a hearing in Taunton.

Tony Williams said Mr Mullett, 69, of Copse Lane, Ilton, who was riding a red Ducati, died in the crash on the B3153 at Kingsweston on September 24, 2016.

Mr Williams added: “He was riding his motorcycle along the road when a car turned right across his path.”

He adjourned indefinitely an inquest into Mr Mullett’s death after revealing the car driver had been jailed for his part in the crash.

Michael Simmons, 47, of Church Lane, East Harptree, was last month jailed for three years and eight months after being convicted of causing death by careless driving.

He was also banned from driving for six years and 10 months and ordered to take an extended driving test.

Mr Williams said post mortem tests showed that Mr Mullett, who was single and a retired fabricator and welder, died from multiple injuries.

Mr Mullett’s family paid tribute to him and said he “will be sorely missed” at the time of the crash.
