A CREWKERNE charity which was saved last year after five new members stepped forward is still looking for one more key role to be filled.

Sheila Seymour, Christine Duberry, Bob and Sue Melville and Caroline Mortimer answered an appeal and agreed to join the committee of the League of Friends of Crewkerne Hospital at the annual meeting in October.

When chairman Ron Bond issued his SOS last year, he said that for health reasons he needs to step down as chairman.

“I’m delighted that they agreed to join,” Ron said.

“They will bring new energy and new ideas and the future of the League of Friends is now looking much more secure.”

His wife Teresa, who is secretary, said she also needs to quit. They have held these posts for more than six years.

She said: “We seem to have turned a corner but we would still like to welcome more members to join the committee.

“We really need someone who is willing to take over from me as secretary.”

The League was formed in 1948, and over the past 70 years has raised and donated hundreds of thousands of pounds to the hospital and other health related organisations for equipment and training.

In the last five years, more than £275,000 has been given to projects such as the redevelopment of the rehabilitation unit.
