AFTER several days of downpour and strong winds, Somerset could be set for a change going in to next week.

The county's damp spirits should be lifted as the rain stops around midday, with the chance of further downpours not set to rise above 5% for the whole of next week.

In their south west for today (September 23), Met Office said: "After a very wet and rather windy start, the rain should clear away to the east by lunchtime.

"This afternoon is then looking mostly dry and bright with plenty of sunny spells and easing winds."

The maximum temperature is set to reach around 14C, before falling to a minimum of 2C overnight.

The Monday forecast to start the week said: "After a sunny but chilly start, Monday should be a fine day. A little cloud will bubble up for a time, but there should still be plenty of sunny spells."

The temperature is set to peak at around 16C.

As for the outlook for tuesday to Thursday, Met Office added: "It should stay fine and dry through the middle of the week.

"By day it will feel increasingly warm in the sunshine, but chilly nights will bring some frost."
