Can Yeovil Town's Kirk be the next Huish Park striker legend?

YEOVIL Town striker Andy Kirk scored his second goal in just three games for the Glovers during last night's 2-2 draw at Port Vale in the Coca-Cola League One.

Now Yeovil fans will be hoping that it is a sign of things to come from the Northern Ireland international.

With 17 League One games still to be played this season, there is still plenty of time for Kirk to become a huge hit for the Glovers.

If he continues to find the back of the net on a regular basis and pushes Yeovil up into the League One play-off spots, the Huish Park faithful will make him an instant hero.

And who is to say that Kirk will not become the latest in a line of strikers who have made such a positive impact on arriving at Huish Park.

Only last season Leon Best, on loan from Championship side Southampton, hit ten goals in 15 league appearances for the Glovers and put Yeovil on the road to a top six finish, although his stay at Huish Park had ended before the campaign's climax.

Kevin Gall arrived at Huish Park from Bristol Rovers in the second-half of the 2002-03 season and his 13 goals in 13 league games certainly played a massive part in Yeovil's Nationwide Conference title success. Who will ever forget the dramatic second-half hat-trick he scored at Halifax in that campaign to give Yeovil a 3-2 win?

Going back to 1996-97 and Howard Forinton arrived midway through the season and his 23 goals in 21 league games took Yeovil to the ICIS Premier League title.

And although Yeovil did not win anything the previous season in 1995-96, Guiliano Grazioli made a big impression by scoring 15 goals in just 11 games for the Glovers.

All Yeovil fans will be hoping that the next name to go alongside the list of Messrs Best, Gall, Forinton and Grazioli is Russell Slade's 'fox in the box' Andy Kirk.
