FORMER Yeovil MP and Liberal Democrat leader Lord Paddy Ashdown talked about his experiences in Bosnia in front of a packed audience at Chardstock Community Hall on Saturday.

Around 90 people heard Lord Ashdown recount events from his time as high representative of the United Nations in the country, as well as an overview of the area and its history.

The illustrated talk lasted for 45 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of questions from the floor.

Somerset County Council leader Cllr Jill Shortland, who attended the event, said: "It was a magnificent evening, Lord Ashdown captivated the audience with the descriptions of his experiences, particularly the history of the area and the knowledge that over one million refugees have returned home since the war.

"I am looking forward to reading his next book, he is such a good speaker."
