A TOWING caravan has been completely destroyed by a fire in Taunton.

It happened yesterday evening (Wednesday, April 17) and the fire service said the blaze involved two towing caravans, one of which was completely damaged.

A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire control received multiple calls to a fire on open ground in Taunton and mobilised crews from Taunton Fire Station.

“Once on scene crews confirmed there were two fires involving towing caravans, one caravan being 100 per cent damaged by fire, the second caravan being 10 per cent damaged by fire.”

“Crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one main jet, and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.”

“Crews confirmed the cause of the fire to be accidental and the incident was handed over to the police.”

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "A neighbourhood policing officer came across a caravan on fire in Tangier Way, in Taunton, at around 7pm yesterday (Wednesday 17 April) while on patrol.

"The fire service was called and the fire extinguished a short time later. The cause of the fire is not yet known and enquiries are ongoing.
