A SPECIAL service will be held next month in memory of a talented Yeovil musician who died earlier this year.
Bryon Bonnett, who played the organ at Street United Reformed Church for some 23 years until a few months before his untimely death earlier this year, will be remembered and celebrated at the church in a special service followed by music and dancing, on Saturday, September 6, from 2.30pm.
All will be welcome at the service. Guest organists Derek Collins, of Yeovil, the Rev Brenda Stephenson, of Dorchester, and various folk musicians will make it a joyful and fairly informal occasion.
People who knew Bryon will have a chance to speak of him, while after the service, the memorial celebration will continue with music, dancing and food.
Bryon was a local man and brought up in Yeovil where he learnt to play the organ at the Princes Street Congregational Church, which is now the United Reformed Church, and later became their organist. He joined a folk club and met up with some young men from Yetminster who had recently acquired a couple of second-hand accordions and were keen to play as well as dance…who went on to become the Yetties! Bryon’s involvement in folk music continued throughout his life and he published his tunes and arrangements.
* The service of celebration for the life of Bryon Bonnett will be held at Street United Reformed Church in High Street, Street, will take place at 2.30pm on September 6.
