DONYATT Tuesday Group enjoyed a special celebratory lunch this month to mark 50 years since the group first met as a ‘Young Wives’ group.
Mrs Joan Watson, wife of the then Rector of Donyatt, Rev. George Watson, started a ‘young wives’ group in April 1958 for busy farmer’s wives, housewives and mothers.
The group offered regular meetings for friendship, interesting speakers and a chance to meet new people. After some years, the young wives having grown older, the group changed its name to the Tuesday Group.
On Tuesday, November 11, the Tuesday Group members, along with husbands and past members, met at the Eagle Tavern for a celebratory lunch to commemorate their 50th anniversary.
Guest of honour was Mrs Watson herself. Now widowed and living quietly in the Quantocks, where she retired with her husband more than 20 years ago, she was delighted with the occasion and genuine warmth of her welcome.
