PRIDE of Somerset Youth Awards winner Samantha Tolson is a high-flying life saver.

The 19-year-old is a passionate member of the Air Cadets and since 2002 she’s devoted practically every weekend to the cause and is on the civilian committee of 914 Squadron which covers Glastonbury and Street.

She’s a teacher of the ‘heart start’ course and in one week she taught 300 cadets.

She also provides casualty simulation for Devon and Somerset so cadets can get realistic first aid practice.

Samanatha told the presentation ceremony audience: “I make blood and muscles and flesh out of flour, water and cooking oil so I tend to burn mum’s pans.

“The heart start course teaches basic life saving skills and I always say to people it’s better to do something rather than nothing.”
