TWO girls from Chard who gave up their 17th birthday parties for a charity event received highly commended certificates in the Pride of Somerset Youth Awards.
In the middle of their AS-level exams, driving tests and other work commitments, Saskya Liney and Fran Hipgrave teamed up to organise a charity event to raise over £700 for the charity CLIC Sargent.
To make sure the event was a success they saved up and worked more hours to cover the costs, they badgered businesses for raffle prizes and sacrificed their 17th birthday parties.
Their hard work was rewarded when 300 people attended.
Their nomination read: “If only more young people were like Saskya and Fran.”
On the night they said: “It’s really nice to get a reward for putting in effort. It was quite a surprise and we don’t know who nominated us.”
