A SPECIAL award from Connexions Somerset was presented to a quick thinking student from Taunton whose actions may have saved the life of one of his neighbours.

Dean Lacey, 17, who lives in Stoke St Gregory and goes to Somerset College, Taunton, was walking past his neighbour’s house one evening when he heard the smoke alarm sounding.

He saw smoke billowing from the kitchen and through the window saw the lady of the house asleep on the sofa.

Not being able to wake her he smashed a window and put out the fire on the cooker in the kitchen, opened the windows to let out the smoke and woke up his neighbour.

His actions earned him a letter of praise form Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

On Friday they also earned him a Pride of Somerset Youth Awards winner’s certificate and the award from Connexions Somerset.
