PRESTON Community School in Yeovil has won a prize draw camera provided by SDS Ltd at a "Meet the Buyer" event at the Haynes Motor Museum in Sparkford.

The event was organised by the Somerset Chamber of Commerce and attracted over 100 "buyers and suppliers" from across the county.

SDS invited visitors to their mobile Ricoh Demonstration Unit to get hands-on experience of some of their copier, printer, scanner and facsimile products.

Visitors were also introduced the cost saving wonders of eCopy scanning technology, which a growing number of Somerset schools and businesses are making use of.

All those who visited the Ricoh Demonstration Unit were invited to participate in a prize-draw, with the winner receiving a Ricoh 8 Digital Camera for use in their school.

The prize-draw winners were Preston School and SDS director Nigel Gass went along to present the camera to the school's assistant principal Peter Moise.

And Mr Moise said: “I’m so surprised, but delighted to win the camera on behalf of the school.

"I’m sure we’ll put it to very good use recording project work, educational visits and sports events.”

Mr Gass said: “The Meet the Buyer event was very successful for us.

"We had a very positive response to the capabilities and benefits of our eCopy product.

"All of our visitors were genuinely impressed by the time saving potential of the technology.

eCopy utilises character recognition and document analysis functions, enabling users to rapidly scan hard copy documents directly into their school’s SIMS.net (database) software or other applications without the usual need for manual filing and distribution.

The scanned documents can vary from medical records, permission forms, SENCO coordinator records and general letters.

The technology is very easy to use and it can also provide enormous benefits in areas like homework pages on school Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) sites.”
